2017’S TOP RELEASES
The big titles we’re looking forward to this year - it’ll be a good one for games
RESIDENT EVIL 7
The latest Resi is set on a derelict plantation in ‘murica (yikes!). This won’t be Resi of old, but will feature demented hillbillies and ghosts. It’ll also be VR-ready, so expect to be terrified.
PREY
The overpowered exosuits are balanced by making them and their upgrades extremely rare days which are all set in the entirety of the Willamette Memorial Megaplex but around different locations. The smaller area leads to a more focused and frenetic experience at the cost of sacrificing the freedom of free-roam. In theory it all sounds fun but finding players online with a good ping will make or break your experience. Good news here as there are various blueprints littered throughout the open world for the player to find and build their WMD. The skill tree has been expanded with a better balanced list of skills plus the EXO suit further skews balance in favour of players. These super-powered suits temporarily increase the strength and stamina.
TOP The game takes place during the Christmas holiday season BOTTOM Fists won’t do when fighting the Evos
of Frank allowing him to sprint limitlessly, eviscerate enemies and even wield massive weapons ripped from the environment. This includes everything from parking meters to mail boxes. The PC port is sadly quite un-optimised causing various performance issues and unless patched, will need a really powerful PC to brute force it. The lesser said for the windows store the better other than Microsoft needs to dump it stat. A few bugs in the game also cause unintentional hilarity to unfurl. The change in direction of the series from a light zombie survival simulator to a crazy power fantasy is telling.
Bethesda’s space-themed, dark-action, first-person RPG, Prey (no relation to the canned Prey 2) is set to take the gaming world by storm, pitting you against a space-station filled with aliens. Oh joy.
RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2
Sometime in autumn (hopefully), fans of the Wild West sandbox shooter will get another stab at the genre, with new features like a stunning open world and long-awaited multiplayer action.
TEKKEN 7
Fans of the long-running beat-’em-up should salivate at the idea of a console release of the hugely popular Japanese arcade game. It’ll feature the series’ trademark OTT cinematic shenanigans.
